Achievements:
1. Utthan and Mahiti initiated a social movement in Bhal (Gujrat) which focused on community managed drinking water resource development within a gender sensitive framework.
2. Utthan has created an agency called Pravah (flow), as a platform for voluntary organizations, technocrats and academicians keen on solving drinking water problems.

Utthan began as the dream of four professional women working in the Bhal region of Ahmedabad district. In Bhal, as in so many parts of India, feudal practices had left women with little power to direct their own lives or to contribute effectively to community well-being. Solving women''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s issues is critical towards fostering gender equity. Hence Utthan began with developing watershed management programs in Dolera region and created institutional frameworks such as mahila
sanghs and pani samitis which provided a construct for decision making by women. A powerful women''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s movement emerged, leading to the creation of an institution widely respected today for its achievements: Mahiti.
