  NGO Goals

 

 

Registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1958, DISHA was formed in late 1985 with the object of effecting socio-economic development of the poor and disadvantaged communities through protest, assertion, and empowerment.

Having gotten involved with earthquake relief work in Gujarat, after the gujarat communal violence, they turned to long-term riot rehabilitation and livelihood regeneration.

The following are the major programmes/activities of DISHA around the issues of rights of the above-mentioned people:

Organizing of Tendu Leaf Plucker Women of Gujarat, raising and addressing their issues, viz. increase in collection rate of Tendu leaf, checking of exploitation by the traders and Forest Development Corporation for whom they pluck the Tendu leaves; compens more...

  Summary

 

DISHA's project for long-term riot relief is being funded by the common pool funds for Gujarat, and is being coordinated by the AID Gujarat taskforce, led by Gautam Desai and Mokshay Madiman.
