  NGO Goals

Provide educational needs for local tribal children in the Periyar area of Wynad. Along with education, the VAT proposes to be a community center providing additional services like agricultural work for parents of the students and administering health care in the long run.

  Achievements

Currently, the school has 311 children, although it has a capacity for 500 children. Lack of state tribal welfare funds for education made it necessary to reduce the number of students from 402 children in 2003.

  Summary

The Vanavasi Ashram Trust (VAT) is an organization founded in 1994 to help the Kuruchiyas and Panias, two tribal communities of the Wynad district in Kerala. It currently runs a school, the Pazhassi Raja Vidyalaya (PRV), at Ullannoor where the Ashram is based. The trust campaigns against alcohol and runs adult education programmes and health camps.

The Pazhassi Raja Tribal Residential Vidyalaya was started as a primary schoool by VAT in 1997. It follows a slightly modified version of the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The medium of instruction is Malayalam.
