  NGO Goals

 

 

Sahiyar (Stree Sanghathan) is a women’s organisation based in Vadodara, Gujarat. Founded in 1984, the organisation was started by women and for women with the long-term aim of working towards a society free from any form of inequality, injustice and atrocity.

Sahiyar's goals include livelihood support for women, education and health awareness for adolescent girls, legal and other support for victims of rape, domestic violence and dowry-re more...

  Achievements

 

1. Campaign against Sex Determination, Sex-Selective Abortions and Sex Pre-Selection. Campaign for Justice for Violence-Affected People Including Women in Vadodara in 2002
2. Follow-up project for livelihood support to affected girls in 2002 Violence .
3. Support for girls who are forced to dropout from school to continue their studies, through small annual scholarships (Rs 2000-2500 a year more...

  Summary

 

AID has been collaborating with Trupti for a long time through PSS (Micheal/Swati), PUCL work through Gautam Desai during Gujarat EQ and riots.

Meeting in Baroda in August 2003 ?

Two chapters are currently involved with Sahiyar:
Columbus and Baltimore. Each has had a member visit the NGO and has approved funding for the first year. New York had also reviewed the proposal and decided not to get involved at this stage.
