KNUC works towards a just, free and equal society where all people, particularly the children, adolescents and women lead a happy, healthy life and are empowered to participate in the process of development. It envisions a society free from social, economical, political and cultural injustice and oppression based on sex, class, race and religion. KNUC has grown over years and currently impacts about 50 villages in Hooghly district. The biggest acheivement of KNUC appears to be the strong local support for their initiatives and their ability to support some projects by contributions from the community. KNUC emerged out of interactions of a group of motivated youth with the community regarding many of the prevailing social evils. They formally formed an organisation in 1980 and registered themselves as an NGO in 1983. They work towards a just and free society and focus on bettering the status of children, adolescents and women in the society as means to acheiving their goal. Currently KNUC impacts 64,000 people spread over 50 villages of the Hooghly district, West Bengal and some urban slum areas surrounding the Bardhman city in Bardhman District in West Bengal.At present it is functioning in rural region of Hooghly district, covering 50 villages and 64 thousand populations in three blocks of the district and limited urban region in and around the Railway & slum areas of Bardhaman cit more...
