  NGO Goals

 

 

The International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB) is an umbrella organisation of all the groups who have joined forces to campaign for justice for the gas survivors of Bhopal. The ICJB is spearheaded by survivors (the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmachari Sangh) and long-time supporters like the Bhopal Group for Information & Action, both Bhopal-based, and both plaintiffs in the ongoing Class Action suit in New York.

The ICJB has campaigned successfully for the rights of the Bhopal victims, lobbying both with Corporations like Dow and Union Carbide and with the Indian Government. They have launched many successful campaigns, hunger strikes and protests, both in India and abroad to higlight the plight of the victims on issues like adequate medical care, cash compensation. The International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB) is an umbrella organization of 20 environmental and social justice groups who have joined forces to campaign for justice for the gas survivors of Bhopal. ICJB is spearheaded by the women''''s survivor group, the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationary Karmachari Sangh.

The ICJB believes in:

1. The Precautionary Principle

2. The ''''Polluter Pays Principle'''' - the idea that those responsible for
polluting the environment and endangering our health should also be held responsible for cleaning up that pollution and preserving our health.

3. The ''''Right to Know'''' - people should have easy access to information about potential or current threats to the quality of the environment and their lives.
