Nishtha is a community based organization dedicated to women’s empowerment in West Bengal. Sinchan is a project of Nishtha, it is a day and night shelter for children of sex workers in the Naya Bazaar area that serves 34 children from the ages of 3 to 15.   Achievements

1. All the 14 out of school children who were mainstreamed in formal school are continuing their studies without being drop out. Earlier we used to see that few children were not able to cope up with the education and the discriminatory environment of school, but this year the behavior of children has improved and the discrimination on children has reduced making this happen. 2. Mothers are now gradually getting involved and taking interest in the education of their children.

  Goals

To provide protection, relief and some essential rights to children of sex workers. 1. To provide a conducive atmosphere for children born to sex workers by keeping them away from abusive language, running errands to get liquir and drugs, physical abuse and above all, a safe environment for joyous learning. 2. To admit and help retention of eligible children of sex workers in mainstream schools. Additional Information is provided in the attached documents
