AID-India has taken a strong initiative to mobilize people and organizations on farmers issues in Andhra Pradesh as part of the Kisan Swaraj Yatra process, working closely with Centre for Sustainabale Agriculture (CSA). The Kisan Swaraj Yatra is a nation-wide mobilization drawing fresh attention to the continuing agricultural crisis in India, and calling for a comprehensive new path for Indian agriculture that will provide livelihood and food security for small farmers, keep our soils alive, and our food and water poison-free. The support requested is for the AP leg of the Yatra.





-- More than 400 organizations nationwide took part in this campaign -- Medium of spreading the message : Street demonstrations, slogans, songs, dances, public meetings and meetings with political leaders and officials -- Who participated: Thousands of farmers, agricultural workers, adivasis, and leaders of organizations and movements helped to raise awareness on the crisis -- The Agriculture Minister congratulated the organizers of the Yatra and said, I endorse this sincere and honest effort by Dr. Ramanjaneyulu and friends to raise the plight of farmers around the notion and push for solutions for their problems. -- Wide variety of organizations took an active part in organizing the meetings and took ownership of the Yatra''s mission of bringing farmers'' issues to the fore.





-- Platform for highlighting the ongoing agrarian crisis chemical farming, unsustainable practices in farming, corporate control of inputs, GM issues, SEZ etc -- Reaching out to farmers, politicians, government officials, universities, common man and others -- Promotion of self-reliant ecological farming -- Organize events at various parts of Andhra Pradesh to bring together a solid representation of the population
