Malini from Aranyika along with other women leaders addressing a womens gathering

The main objective of this project is to build and strengthening the youth associations and women’s legal cell that Aranyika has been working on during last few years with support from AID. Specifically, this project proposed to support one volunteer at the youth association level who can give substantial time to the association activities and their issues. Besides systematize the ongoing youth associations, Aranyika also wants to focus on youth at colleges, nurture them towards social responsibility besides their personal development. This is achieved through college events, legal training, campaigns,

With this project Aranyika would like to build on these activities and work towards strengthening women’s legal cell. Specifically, through its women desk Aranyika wants to concentrate on the process how the case is going on in the court once a case is filed in the court. There is a need to monitor and question the legal process in the courts. For this Aranyika wants to use the RTI to know the case details at all levels, take necessary steps as required. The project is expected to continue for multiple years with an understanding that there will be an annual report documenting the progress of these activities at the end of each year.

Womens Desk DAWRI (Desk for Awareness of Women on Responsibilities and Issues), A tribal women friendly initiative has proved to be a trusted friend for those helpless and hopeless women to bank upon in times of distress. During last year, DARI has been working on 28 different cases including providing guidance, counseling and legal support. An example of one of those cases include couple of examples of these cases include Lakshmi Devi and Syed Anwar. Ms B Lakshmi Devi aged 21 years lived in Kodapalli Village of Pedabayalu Mandal with her parents. Mr Syed Anwar aged 25 years also lived in the same village and was in love with Ms Lakshmi Devi. Both of them belong to different community as one is a muslim and other hindu, Parents didn’t agree for their marriage and two years passed by. There was no compromise between the two families and Ms Lakshmi Devi was a 7 months pregnant women. As both the families are not agreeing Ms Lakshmi Devi came to know about the legal desk being organized by Aranyika an NGO working towards the welfare of woman explained the situation to the President Ms Malini and Director Mr Rajkumar. Knowing the situation and both of them being majors Ms Malini with the support of Paderu Sub Inspector arranged marriage. Now the couple living happily in Kodapalli Village, Pedabayalu Mandal, Visakhapatnam District with a child. Sample achievements from Youth Associations During the implementation of NREGS it was found that only few people got job cards and the rest don’t have in Galaganda Gram Panchayat which has six villages. This was noticed by the Youth Association and conducted a survey to identify people who do not have job card. The youth association collected the details and submitted to the Assistant Program Officer (APO). The APO instructed the youth association to identify works in the Gram Panchayat so that works will be allotted as per their priority. Thus the youth association identified the following three works for their Gram Panchayat which are as follows: ? Coffee Plantation ? Stone Walls ? Mud Walls Thus works were allotted for a tune of Rs.8 lakhs for 150 people during the year. Indiramma Housing In February 2009 there was a sanction of house to all the ration card holders to Cheruvupakala Village of Kilagada Gram Panchayat. The construction work started and completed upto basement level which was not approved by the concerned officers for release of funds in online. The beneficiaries met work inspector and concerned officers regularly which was of no use. These beneficiaries approached the youth association and the members of the youth association conducted a survey, came to know that there are discrepancies and filed an Right To Information Act (RTI) to the Assistant Engineer on 17th January 2010. Even though the RTI was filed there was no action from the department. The new Chief Minister launched a new programme called “RACHABANDA” to solve any issues pertaining to development activities and schemes on the spot. The youth association utilized this as a platform to solve the issue and raised the issue in front of the officers attended the program which was conducted on 4th February 2011. The officers responded and shared the information that 62 houses were proposed and out of which 14 got sanctioned. The remaining 48 houses for which there was no sanction due to shortage of ICFS information as there were no proper ration cards and will be informed to M D, Housing Corporation, Hyderbad on 7th February 2011. Thus with the submission of proper ration cards the remaining 48 members also got sanction.
