The Parivartan Classroom.

Parivartan, established in 1997, seeks to educate disadvantaged children living in the slums of Wadala, Mumbai, who otherwise would not be able to attend formal school. The specialized curriculum focuses on basic academic and life skills and the theme of social justice. Parivartan provides equal education to approximately 120 children regardless of religion, caste, culture, language, or gender.

Approximately 120 children between 4 and 12 years old currently attend classes at one of the two Parivartan centers. Many have graduated from Parivartan to go on to attend regular public school. Recently a study center and computer center have been opened alongside the two existing educational centers.

The short-term goals of the Parivartan project include continuing to support the existing educational centers and building a library with an adequate collection of books. In the long-term, Parivartan would like to develop additional educational centers in the remaining 10 slum neighborhoods of Wadala, Mumbai.
