  Summary

People from many slums of Delhi have been forcibly evicted and relocated to undeveloped areas on the outskirts which lack even the most basic facilities such as running water and electricity. The people of Bhalaswa have formed this platform to represent their causes with the govt. The group works raises awareness amongst the community regarding what their rights are, and gets people together to work towards fulfillment of those demands.

  Achievements

The group is largely comprised of women, has found success in improving the electricity supply and ration supply. Government office visits and protests organized by BLSM have led to the development of basic infrastructure like ration and better sanitation in Bhalaswa. BLSM is also actively networking with folks living in other slums that are about to be resettled. Past Achievements. BLSM has successfully been able to convince the government to let resettled kids transfer to local schools instead of having to travel many miles to their old schools.

  Goals

Immediate Goals Ensure that the community is not displaced again in 2011. Clear the confusion regarding eligibility of people for BPL Ration cards. File RTIs to reinstate canceled ration cards. Improve local schools.
