It has been proven beyond doubt that food supplementation for patients with tuberculosis who receive antituberculous drugs improves survival, makes them more capable of returning to normal functional life. With the support of AID, we have been trying to provide 2 to 3 kg of soyabeen as a dietary supplement for tuberculosis. While this is a small supplement, it is able to provide 25 g of proteins per day, which is almost 40% of the daily requirement. This year, JSS wants to switch to locally available and preferred protein sources. This year theyd like to give it to all patients of TB not just to those with moderate and severe undernutrition.

1. Argue with the state, and get them to agree to consider piloting food supplementation through food coupons, so that 10 kg of rice, 2 kg of dal and 1 kg of oil per month. This pilot will start in one development block in Bilaspur district. 2. At the same time, trying with the tuberculosis programme of the state health department to agree for this to be implemented at the state level.

Provide 2 kg of a local pulse lathyrus or chick pea per month for 9 months to all tuberculosis patients who are registered at JSS
