  Summary

Providing cell phones to health workers can help in the following - share clinical complaints and seek second opinion from more senior health workers, ask for ambulance support, check for dose of drugs with senior persons communicate administrative details for efficient planning.

  Achievements

Great utility in the recent falciparum malaria epidemic, when it was also used for telling the reports of the blood smear examination for malaria where swiftness in decision making is critical. -The state of Chhattisgarh has, on seeing the success of our programme and the potential of this medium of communication for supporting the most peripheral of the health personnel , has decided to provide their ANMs and possibly the Mitanins with cellphones in the next year.

  Goals

With the grant that we have received in the past, we have provided cell phones to 40 VHW. The rest had their own cell phones. We have provided them recharge coupons for them over these last 2 years. The central Hub at the referral centre coordinates the needs of the peripheral health workers.
