JANPATH was established 15 years ago in response to the need felt by social workers and activists to have a state wide network to develop linkages among voluntary organizations to help & support small community based organizations and to do public advocacy with media, government and citizenry at large, on critical issues of development and social justice in the state of Gujarat.
The primary goal of the organization is to promote and strengthen voluntarism and social actions to alleviate the conditions of marginalized sections of the society.
This is being attempted by facilitating sharing of information and creating understanding among voluntary organizations on different aspects of poverty and under development in Gujarat, efforts of different VOs to address the Human rights & development issues, government policies & programmes towards the poor. In this process JANPATH promotes collective voluntary action by providing necessary support to individual and groups engaged in social action.





Following are the list of JANPATH Programmes and Activities. 1. Advocacies and Coalition Building ? RAHBAR – A monthly programme of sharing the experiences of member organizations. ? Exposure Trips – Tour to model interventions on different issues within or outside the state. ? Samachar Sankalan – A monthly bulletin of JANPATH 2. Issues of Concern… ? Akik (Agate) Polishing work of Khambhat and Occupational disease - Silicosis ? Agariya – Inland and sea Salt workers in Gujarat ? Right to Information ? Maldhari – Issues of nomadic community (shepherd community) ? Shalane Pass Jaher Karo Karyakram- A campaign for integrated approach of elementary education in Gujarat. 3. Campaigns on Some Contemporary Issues: ? FCRA Campaign – A campaign to protest against the tightening of FCRA ? CACL – Campaign against Child Labour ? WSF – Gujarat Process ? Voters Education Campaign ? Right to food Campaign 4. Building partnerships through the support Programme for Community Based Organizations ? Financial as well as programmatic inputs to upcoming groups in the sector. 5. Response in Disaster ? Cyclone in the year 1999 ? Drought in the year 2000 ? Earthquake in the year 2001 ? Communal violence in the year 2002 6. Facilitating the formation of issue based networks ? Pravaah – A state level network on the issue of drinking water. ? Balsansad – A children’s assembly for Advocacy on Child Rights ? Kutch Thelassaemia Society – A forum of parents of Thelassaemic children in Kutch ? Gujarat Jan-Andolan- A collective forum of Trade Unions and the voluntary organizations ? Mahiti Adhikar Gujarat Pahel ? Vicharat Samudaa Samarthan Manch 7. Capacity building programmes for member organizations. 8. Various training workshops for middle level workers in member organizations. 9. Research and Documentations ? Research on the problems that are not mainstreamed, and publishing the facts in the form booklets and monographs. ? Promote and support initiatives on such problems.





1. To coordinate between various stakeholders like community, government, civil society, media, small traders etc. in interest of the Agariyas. 2. To conduct meeting and trainings for the community on leadership building, NREGA, RTI, advocacy, Panchayati Raj, Minimum Wages, Act, Payment of Wages act etc. etc. 3. To conduct field visits in salt producing areas 4. To communicate to government about the grass root processes, and needs identified during training and field work. 5. To represent at various government meetings like district empowered committee, multi-stakeholder’s meeting. 6. To report to the head office regularly by proving detailed documentation of various activities conducted during the month.
