Manshi Asher: A Post Graduate in Social Work from Tata Institute of
Social Sciences - 1998 batch, she has 12 years of experience in
environment, development and livelihood rights issues . After working
with organisations like National Centre for Advocacy Studies and
Foundation for Ecological Security, since 2007 she has been working as
an independent researcher-activist, documenting and writing on impacts
of destructive development policies and mega industrial projects on
communities and their environment. She has been actively associated
with campaigns and grassroots struggles against Special Economic
Zones, Mining, mine based and polluting industries and hydropower
projects. For the last four years she has been living and working in
Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. In 2010 along with fellow activists, she
co-founded Him Dhara (land of Snow), an Environment Research and
Action Collective , to lend support to mountain communities asserting
their rights over their natural resources. To see some of her

The achievements for the past year include: 1. Renuka Dam -Raised several issues related to the diversion of forest land. Obtained stay on all dam construction activity. 2. Lafarge Mine and Cement Plant Case - Present during the site visit of EAC to lend support to the local people and also helped with mobilising the media. 3. Documenting and Investigating ADB funding to hydroprojects. 4. Submission against the CDM funding of the Kashang Integrated Project to the UNFCCC. 5. Lending support to the campaign against the World bank Funded 750 MW Luhri Hydro-electric Project. 6. Editorial support in preparation of a preliminary report on the impacts of Jispa dam in the Lahaul valley.





Providing support to struggles/campaigns against unfair SEZ set ups in the form of: * Direct action like strategic planning, petitioning, organisning solidarity actions and pushing for just legal action Research and documentation fact findings, field investigation, extraction of information through RTIs, compilation and dissemination of information through reports, papers and articles Media advocacy writing stories on the issues in print media as well net based fora , feeding local and national media with stories
