  Summary

Tribal Farming Initiative is a movement to help farmers in the valley to form collectives where they share their knowledge and are slowly shifting to traditional seeds and ways of farming. Natural manure and organic pesticides are replacing life-killing chemicals. External debts are being replaced by internal loans. There is a pride in being in control of all what is needed the seeds, the manure and the pesticide. Women groups help to process the produce so that wealth can be made in their homes instead of the demeaning labour in a city slum.
The continuous efforts of Tribal Farming Initiative helped the organic farmers to organize under one roof called Sittilingi Valley Organic Farmers Association (SOFA). At present 57 farmers are members of this association and they applied for group organic certification in Department of organic certification, Tamilnadu. Now they are in the process of finding ways to improve their organic practices and making pesticides free valley.
