This project is unique to AID. TRU is working towards rural mental health care.Mental health is a neglected area and the mentally ill patients are socially and economically deprived. TRU aims to address this problem by using a community based rehabilitation approach.





TRU started working for integration of mental health with general health programs in the year 2004 05, as a pilot project with govt of Gujarat Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and Royal Nederlands Agency. . A random sample survey of all project villages (60) using the GHQ 28 (General Health Questionnaire 28) was also carried out. Results of GHQ -28 and other research topics were compiled .TRU has done some basic ground work in the study of the population and has used a comprehensive health care approach to address this problem.





1. To work towards community based rehabilitation of mentally ill patients of the rural tribal area of Panch Mahals district. 2. To run psychiatric clinics at a distance less than 20 kms from most villages in tribal region of Halol and Jambughoda taluka so that patients from all (238 ) villages can access the services 3. To prepare a village level cadre for support counseling for patients as well as the care-takers / family members 4. To integrate mental health components into general health work where possible. 5. To liaison with other NGOs, provide training inputs and help them develop mental health program in the area of their intervention.
