  Summary

 

 

Himdhara has been supporting communities dependent upon local ecosystems impacted by large scale industrialization, and activists, by building their capacities to assert their democratic rights. The long term vision is to work towards preservation of the critical natural resources, bio-diversity and ecological spaces which sustain lives and livelihoods of the mountain people.

 
 

  Achievements

 

 

1. Fully functional website www.himdhara.org has been created, and is updated regularly. 2. Organized the following workshops: (a) Small Hydroprojects and their impacts'' in September 2012. (b) Exposure Visits and Capacity Building Programme for community representatives from the 775 MW Luhri Dam affected area. 3. Presentation at the COP11 Biodiversity Convention. 4. Consolidation of identity as a support and watchdog group in the state (at the Himachal level).

 

  Goals

 

 

To generate extensive documentation and evidences of the social and ecological impacts in the state; To build capacities of local communities through direct support in information gathering, analysis, dissemination and use and to enable local people to demand full and fair participation in the environmental decision making processes for specific projects; To provide legal aid and support to local communities and groups raising concerns related to destructive projects; To work towards creating public pressure and lobby to bring about a review and change in the policies; To act as a watchdog group drawing attention to violations of environmental norms and social accountability principles in development planning
