Given the sharp increase in industrialisation, PSA believes that it is important to increase capacity in civil society to alert communities about the dangers associated with pollution and on ways and methods to combat pollution and polluters. To this end, PSA hired a toxics campaigner, focusing primarily on the Southern region. Over the last year, the campaigners work has increased considering his involvement in campaigns against takeover of coastal commons from fisherfolk for industrial purposes.

Additionally, the campaigner will now continue work that has already begun on supporting fisherfolk in their campaigns against takeover of coastal commons for inappropriate industrial uses. The responsibilities will also include kick-starting a state-wide campaign by fisherfolk against alienation of coastal commons, which will involve preparation of campaign material, outreach, mobilisation and action. PSA requires support only for the salary component and expenses for the campaigner, in addition to a 10 percent add-on for administrative costs.

The campaigner will involve himself/herself in the ongoing struggles against pollution and for workers/community rights in Kodaikanal (Hindustan Unilever), Thoothukudi (Sterlite), Mettur, Cuddalore, Kodungaiyur (Garbage dumping).
