  Summary

 

 

This project aims at controlling the killer disease, Kala Azar, which is endemic in certain regions of Bihar, U.P and Orissa. Both curative and preventive actions were taken to control the disease. The project targets the poorest in the community, which are the Musahars (rat eaters).

Key Achievements:
1- 77 patients identified for a Kala Azar treatment Camp
2- Of the 77 patients admitted in the Kala azar camp 69 were succesfully treated, 3 were referred to Darbhanga Medical Collage Hospital for further treatment, 2 lives could not be saved and 3 were diagnosed as not having KA.
3- Two rounds of focal DDT spray was done in 65 villages of Kushewar asthan east and west and Biraul blocks covering 4311 houses during each round.

Procurement of list of resistant cases of Kala azar from the register of PHC
Confirmation of diagnosis through lab investigations
Treatment of confirmed cases under medical supervision through camp approach
Focal spray of DDT in villages from where cases were identified
