The SEED organization was founded in 1982 at Sriperambadur, TamilNadu with 27 children. Now it has around 300 children. The aim of the NGO is to impart life oriented education as propounded by Mahatma Gandhi to make the children of life prisoners, leprosy patients , and also deserted and abandoned children to stand on their own feet and face the future with courage and skills.

For the children residing in seed’ , all their basic necessities are met by seed ‘ such as food, clothing, shelter, medical needs, toiletries, bed & bedding, books & note books, educational materials and also education, vocational training during school hours, full pledged industrial training for two years in the field of fitter, electrician, mechanic ( motor vehicle ) for boys, electronic ( mechanic ) & cutting and tailoring for girls.





Some of the accomplishments of the NGO are: 1.As a first time, in the history of the State, 10 days special leave ( parole ) given to the prisoners to see their children by the Government each year during Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration 2. 250 children completed Industrial Training in Fitter, Electrician, Wireman, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle) Trades and Cutting & Tailoring and got gainful employment in good industries. (Hyundai, Army , Police Dept, Nurses at Ramachandra Medical College) Children have also continued further studies – diploma in civil and electronic engineering 3. Best Child Development Project in India - ROTARY CLUB OF INDIA (SERVICE TO HUMANITY award in 1995) Gandhi National Award was given in the field of Education for the under privileged children. 4. Apart from academic education vocational training in Tailoring, Toys making, Plastic articles making, Mat Weaving is also imparted along with lessons on Gandhian thoughts.





The goal of the AID chapter in Portland is to provide financial aid to the SEED organization by providing the salary of primary school staff and part salary of high school staff
