  Summary

Hundred Block Plan is an AID-wide project. (http://www.aidindia.org/aipsn)

  Achievements

Weighing children and providing advice to the mothers of malnourished children and pregnant women is the first step in this program. Since the work had started few years back, 3rd round of weighing children is going on now in many blocks. Health registers with details about children and pregnant women are maintained and vital events (birth/death) are recorded. Certificate Exams are conducted to test and ensure that all village activists and block full timers are well trained. It is also aimed to develop the experiences and contents of this programme into a larger course material for other NGOs, VHNs and people interested in health issues. Four page cards on child nutrition, childhood illness, pregnancy care, etc are made and sent to all the activists (through the blocks) - one card a month. During block visits, the state full-timer will demonstrate how the card can be used while meeting mothers. Self-help groups are created in large numbers for small savings and low interest loans.

  Goals

To improve utilization of existing primary health care services To make a measurable improvement in child health by training village women activists and by improving community awareness and organization To organize and empower women around health needs.
