Initiatives in livelihood options and mobilization of tribal communities in Pathnamthitta Dist of Kerala





- Funding delayed to August 2005 - Project has been started and regular monthly calls are held with Jose Peter to follow up on progress of the project





Formation of Cooperative Society for collection and work on Forest Minor produces: The formation of a “girijan society” has been identified as a major input needed. Four major functions are now identified as the possibilities of such a Co-operative. 1.7a.a Procure license from the Bamboo Corporation for cutting of reed by co-operative members and sale to the Corporation 1.7a.b Work out possibilities for making products for daily use like plates, cups, covers, spoons, caps packaging materials etc using reeds, other leaves and wood materials for sabarimala, which has now banned the use of plastic and plastic products in the area. This can go a major way in addressing the employment question and opportunities for women 1.7a.c Taking of tender for Collections of Forest Minor Produces (in the name of the Society) from the Forest Department for the Ranni Gudrikal Range and look into the possibilities of production of materials out of these FMPs. 1.7a.d Bulk collection and sale of agricultural produce like Black Pepper produced by tribals ensuring fair prices and distribution of essential commodities at fair prices thro this during lean season
