Overall development of 40 villages in the block with focus on child and women health, vocational training and micro-credit savings group (self help groups)

AID-Boise supporting the Thiruvarangulam block under HBP. Funding for the following expenses
o Monthly salary for the block full-timers
o Organizing Training camps
o Voccational training for sustraining the block


 
 

  Achievements

 

 

- Reduction in malnutrition among infants and children through Arogya Iyakkam program. -Improvement in literacy level through evening classes and low cost libraries. -About 15 self help groups in the block are doing fine. Women contribute Rs. 50/month. -Also providing vocational training and legal aid to woemn at self help groups. (making washing powder, soap and candles are pretty successful. eg: one group is making about Rs. 2000 a month)

 

  Goals

 

 

Following are objectives under the Hundred Block Plan: ?To improve the utilization of primary health care services ?To make measurable improvement in child health by training village women activists and by improving community awareness and organization ?To organize and empower women around their health needs. Following are objectives under the Arogya Iyakam program : ?Selection and training of village health activist to prepare and maintain the health register ?Start savings group to sustain the group ?Special women discussions including women’s rights, ante and post natal care, child care ?Kalajatha programs to provide awareness through entertainment ?Training camps for health activist at the block and village level ?Awareness training to the villages ?Child care including weighing children, diagnosing right nutrition for the child, follow up
