The villagers of Surodi have come together to develop their village in an overall manner. Surodi is in Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra which has very scanty rainfall. Since the main occupation of the
villagers is agriculture (however, not water
intensive crops) they have proposed this project of micro-watershed development whereby they can capture rain water and harvest the same for agricultural and other purposes. This is very encouraging since the villagers have studied the water requirement with very little outside help and written up a proposal for water harvesting by building small bunds.

will be updated when information is obtained.

Previously we funded a project by the Surodi villagers to build large scale water harvesting using big communal bunds. A significant part of the previous project was completed successfully. Now, the villagers believe (with inspiration from other ideal villages such as Ralegaon Siddhi) that they can implement micro-watershed projects. The bunds will be built on individually owned property, and we believe that this will create a spirit of interdependence and cooperation in the village. The aim is to harvest water on a very local level, for specific wells in the village. This project is a clear extension of previous work we have undertaken.
