Bhasha Centre documents and promotes tribal languages, literature, and art, for cultural conservation, socio-economic empowerment, and human rights protection of tribals and denotified tribes.





Some Achievements (in 2003) * Tribals First : Indian Tribal Cultural Centre was established at Baroda as a culmination of the Adivasi Artists Co-operative. * Graduates of the academy established seven Vikas Sewa Kendras, Development Services Centres for community work in adivasi villages. These centers oversee 64 water bank collectives, food grain bank with 2800 women members, 54 non formal education centers, and 260 micro-credit self help groups. * Initiation of Sickle Cell Anaemia Research in collaboration with the Reliance Lifesciences Division. * Conceptualisaton of a Social Transformation Literature series of 25 volumes in 4 languages. * Approval of Bhasha''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s community work by the National Planning Commission of India. * Budhan Theatre Group was established in Chharanagar, Ahmedabad.





-Goals * To research and document linguistic, literary, and artistic heritage of tribal communities in India. * To establish a national level Tribal Academy for initiating formal education in the area of conservation of Tribal imagination. * To translate study and research undertaken at the Academy into action oriented interventions for empowerment of marginalized communities. * To create a community of thinkers and activists, especially from within tribal communities to create new thought processes and forces of action to facilitate social and cultural change.
