  Summary

Sivasri Chatirable Trust is an NGO based in Bangalore, founded in 2001 by a small group of professionals to improve the state of public education system. Under a scheme of Government of Karnataka wherein NGOs are encouraged to adopt schools, Sikshana project was introduced in government primary schools in Bangalore South school zone in the year 2001.

In this particular project, three AID chapters funded various aspects of Sikshana project.
(i) AID columbus supported the infrastructural needs of two government schools in the sub-urban areas of Bangalore. In Kadirenahalli, AID columbus approved funding for purchasing two computers and furniture (Rs. 50,000). In Gubbalala school, funding is for construction for a class room which has been neglected by government(Rs. 1,50,000/-).

Progress: A class room and a toilet has been constructed at the Gubbalala school by Feb 2006. A computer center has been opened at the Kadirena Halli school and training the school staff and kids will take place during summer 2006. A preliminary learning assessment of kids has been made at both the schools.

(ii) AID TAMU funded Categoty-1 expenditures(Motivational inputs like prizes, libraries, Educational kits) for fours schools: Chickkalasandra, Gubbala, Kumaraswamylayout and Chandranagar.

(iii) AID New Orleans funded Category-1 expenditures for two schools Vasanthapura & Srinivasanagar.

Progress: The NGO conducted variety of activities for all the schools under them. An adventure trip of rock climbing, library expeditions, an educational trip to Delhi, a trip to Saalu marada Thimmakka were among the prominent ones.

  Achievements

A class room and a toilet has been constructed at the Gubbalala school by Feb 2006. A computer center has been opened at the Kadirena Halli school and training the school staff and kids will take place during summer 2006. A preliminary learning assessment of kids has been made at all the schools. Results would be published after the final assessment in March. The NGO has conducted variety of activities for all the Sikshana schools under the Motivation input scheme. An adventure trip of rock climbing, library expeditions, an educational trip to Delhi, a trip to ''Saalu marada Thimmakka'' were among the prominent ones. Though these may seem not to have direct relation to the school curriculum, they act as catalysts for improving the academic performance of the school children.

  Goals

AID columbus funded following two projects ($4750): (i) Kadirena-Halli School Computer Center - Kadirenahalli governement school is one of the best among those under Sikshana project. Rs. 50,000 (~$1250) is approved for the purchase of two computers and furnitures for the computer center that is planned in this school. The goal is to expose the government school kids as well as teachers to the modern educational tools using computer, apart from helping them learn computer techniques. (ii) Gubbalala School - Though just about 4-5 kms from the Kadirenahalli, this is a remote place in bangalore sub-urb in the sense that there is very little connectivity. This is the only primary school in the surrounding area and nearest higher primary school is 4 kms away. So Rs. 1,50,000 is approved for the construction of a class room and a toilet. This will help school start Class 6 and 7 apart from reducing drop outs. AID TAMU Funded the following aspects ($1900): (i) Chikkalsandra government school - "Motivation Inputs for Learning Enhancement" is approved (Rs. 20,000). (ii) Gubbalala School - "Motivation Inputs for Learning Enhancement" is approved (Rs. 20,000). (iii)Kumaraswamy Layout Schol - "Motivation Inputs for Learning Enhancement" is approved (Rs. 20,000). (iv) Chandra-nagar school - "Motivation Inputs for Learning Enhancement" is approved (Rs. 20,000). The Motivational Inputs involve various miscellaneous activities such as organizing various competitions, annual events, Library visits, in the school. These are generally accessible for kids in private schools. But this project aims to reduce that gap.
