AID-Blacksburg has recently received, reviewed and decided to approve a project proposal on runnning six Balwadis in the slum areas of Goregoan, Bombay.
I)Indira Nagar Slum, ii )Teen Dongri Slum,(morning),iii )Teen Dongri Slum (afternoon),iv) Sahakar Wadi Slum,v)Hanuman Tekdi Slum, vi)Vitbhattim

All these Balwadis are spread out as above in the slum areas of Goregaon and are coordinated from the main office of Keshav Gore Smarak Trust.

The proposal was sent by Keshav Gore Smarak Trust, a social organization that has been actively running the Balwadis.The Trust runs a welfare center and is also actively involved with several other activities that benefit the slum dwellers around that area.

The activities of the Balwadis are:

- Children are taught to learn alphabet, sing peoms,etc.

- Children will get involved in drawing, singing, elocution, acting, sports and

competitions will be held in all these activities.

- Once a week snacks are provided, and once a year Annual Day will be celebrated.

AID funding will meet the following expenses:

- Teachers salary, Helpers salary, teaching aids, stationery, sweets,

Supervisors salary and other contingencies.





1. All Balwadis are equipped with toys with which the children are allowed to play 2. The children are taught to sing poems,sometimes audio cassettes are used 3. They are taught to identify different types of vegetables and are taught to clean and dress the vegetables 4. Drawing ,elocution,sports competitions of children are arranged 5. Children are taught solo acting and solo singing with acting 6. Once a year at Annual Day all the students are brought on the stage to give group performance 7. Every year one day children are taken for sight seeing 8. Monthly meeting of parents is arranged to make them aware of nutrition, hygiene and cleanliness 9. No provision for lunch/meals at the Balwadis.But once a week snacks are served to the children.





To strive to help and secure professional and the particular Project submitted: skills,jobs and social status to weaker sections of the community. The purpose of starting these Balwadis is to encourage parents in slums to send their children to school and make them aware of new methods of learning.
