  Summary

Counting, training, mentoring and resettling (CTMR) of the Dispossessed Solicitors (beggars) in the city of Baroda.

The project was initially to be carried over a period of 2
years - 2006 and 2007. The requested amount was $5000 over two years - 2006 and 2007.

In 2006, AID Dallas approved $2000
In 2007, Dr.Devy got back saying that $1500 would suffice for that yr.
For 2008, the requested funding is Rs.85000 initially.AID Dallas will issue the CRF in rupees, in order to account for the $ devaluation over the last year. Hence the approximate budget is $2200 (Rs.85000).

  Achievements

Initial Survey for DS completed. Manish from Bhasha working with group to document their stories. Small savings groups and documenation process has begun for some DS. Plan to have houses along with Bhasha office in Phase II

  Goals

The first step in this direction was a sample survey of about 500 DSs. The next step will be to issue identification documents to them. The third step will be to trace them back to the places of their origin, and to their places of present habitation. The fourth step will be to form Small Saving Micro-credit Self-help-groups (SHGs) out of these DSs.
