  Summary

 

 

AID India, along with other partners, in Delhi are working in proper Implementation of Right To Information [RTI] act, which can revolutionize the Government functioning. By proper implementation and awareness of this act, people are empowered with a potent tool to get their legitimate work done in Government offices without paying Brines. Focus of this projects is mainly the poor and marginalized community but working closely with residents of both low-income slum settlements and higher income colonies.

Main are of the project will be:
1. Demanding transparency and accountability in the functioning of the PDS
2. Monitoring social security schemes
3. Demanding transparency and accountability from elected representatives
4. water supply and sanitation Monitoring
5. Creating legal awareness to marginalized people

 
 

  Achievements

 

 

1. Demanding transparency and accountability in the functioning of the PDS - has been working work with residents of low income slum settlements in Delhi to ensure that they get their rightful entitlements under the Public Distribution System (PDS) – a scheme wherein the government spends close to Rs 30,000 crores annually to provide essential commodities like food grain and kerosene oil at subsidized rates to the poor. This work has facilitated change in policy by continuous interface between slum communities and the Food department. 2. Monitoring social security schemes - One of the focus areas has been to develop peoples’ capacities to access benefits of the various social security schemes such as old age pensions, pensions for widows and handicapped people run by the Delhi government. 3. Demanding transparency and accountability from elected representatives 4. Demand accountability from government departments responsible for provision of water supply and sanitation resulting in improvement of these services. 5. Creating legal awareness and encouraging people to get their work done in the government without paying bribes.

 

  Goals

 

 

1. Work with people directly, people’s groups and mass organizations to equip their membership to file and follow-up on RTI applications 2. Popularize RTI among working classes in as many districts in different states by holding training camps and clinics regularly. 3. Assist community struggles in bad Governmental policies by strategic use of the RTI Act. 4. Help with the RTI needs of various people’s movements. 5. Networking at the National level to increase awareness of the RTI Act 6. Coordinating with the National Campaign 7. Tracking, reporting and taking action on the implementation of Right to Information in different parts of the state.
