  Summary

Ajodhaya hill is under the Purulia district (District itself is a drought prone backword district since years) consists of 74 tribal villages with full of jungles and existences are scattered. The total population of those 74 villages is 20000 and the people are suffered round the years with various diseases. Among those diseases Malaria is one of the major diseases for which death are happening. In the year 2000, GTZ, Germany has extended Mandra a Pilot Initiatives to study the Malaria situation of the ajodhaya hill. Then we have in touch with Dr.Amitava Nandi, who then the Professor and Head, Depart of Pracitology and Protozoalogy, School of Tropical Medicine, Government of West Bengal. Under his direct control, we have started work for finding the status of parasite, drug resistances and root cause of Malaria. Initially, we have taken 5 villages where the maximum malaria cases are happened. After the end of the Pilot initiatives, we found that the communities are not aware about the diseases; its natural control system and finally we found that the children are suffering much. Then we have approached AID to support us for the know of the community of those 5 selected villages. AID, Maryland has extended support and gradually, we have requested Arun Gopalan of Maryland to support for setting up a Testing Laboratory at Hilltop and with his active initiation, we have in touch with AID TAMU. With your chapter support, we have constructed the Laboratory unit where 24 hours Lab Technicians are staying and the people are coming when the fell fever. After finding, we are providing the requisite medicine (as per the guidance of Dr.Nandi) to them and at present the people of 30 villages are using this lab unit.
Drinking water system of Ajyodha village:
There are 72 nos. of sansad villages at Ajyodhya hilltop covering distant remote parts of 4 different blocks- Baghmundi, Arsha, Jhalda II and Balarampur. The hills have jointly created a platue at Ajyodhya hill. There is a government supply of pipeline near by the panchayat office, which covers 11 cluster villages at the heart, which is basically a tourist spot of West Bengal. Rests of the villages are dependent on “Dari” open hill based dug wells or wells, which are situated on natural availability of spring/, hill water. The area being at a long height (2000 ft high) is difficult to supply water from plain. So every year with low rainfall is very critical for human and animals to survive. For recent years rainfall is not so satisfactory and the area is passing tough time to curtail use of water.
