The project aims to empower and enable the rural and Adivasi communities of Heggadadevanakote taluk in Mysore district to participate in their own development through a variety of intervention strategies formulated by the tribals and SVYM volunteers to address social, political, environmental and developmental issues.

Cost to run the solar powered mobile unit over a 250km radius: $13 per day
Cost of food for the volunteer team for 15 persons : $4 per day
Cost of maintenance of solar and audio-visual equipment : $0.50
Empowering tribals to take charge of their own lives: Priceless!

In Boradevaramunti, a village with both tribals and non tribals, people have stopped selling and buying of local arrack through their grampanchayaths following a show of Jagrutha Bharatha. Many such incidents boost the morale of the team, as the results are evident immediately. Many such villages have banned alcohol sale in their areas following the program. In Nanjanathpura, a village in Zone 2 area, people have demanded for voluntary blood testing camp for HIV/AIDS. Here the condom usage has increased appreciably following the program. People from different villages have requested for the program to be conducted. Dr.Balasubramanium, the NGO coord, has recently been appointed to the Planning Commission by the Govt. of India. This NGO interacts with Vanavasi Aashram in Waynad, Kerala - another AID Boston funded project.
