  Summary

 

 

LEISA-Low external input sustainable agriculture is an initiative started by AID Saathi Prasanna near bangalore.The project involves training landless women in organic agriculture.The laborers then enter into an agreement with landlords who pay for their on farm activities.AID paid the labor for additional hours which eventually will come from NREGA.For NREGA advocacy is needed.AID-MN is planning to fund NREGA advocates at Rs 500 per month.

 
 

  Achievements

 

 

In Motaganahalli the panchayat has agreed to approve NREGA for farm activities. 21 farmers have expressed interest in going organic. In chintamani the yield from LEISA has been bought up locally at competitive prices.Also a local bank has approved 5 lakhs loan to the laborers for organic farming.

 

  Goals

 

 

The goal is to mainstream organic agriculture.The other goal is to use NREGA for sustainable agriculture. The goal is also to experiment with new forms of profit sharing between farmer/laborer, use the NREGA funds on offseason towards agricultural work.
