Second Year of the third Phase of Sikshana 2008-09. AID has funded Sikshana for the last four years. This year the proposal is for partial funding of Phase III.

Sivasri Chatirable Trust is an NGO based in Bangalore, founded in 2001 by a small group of professionals to improve the state of public education system. Currently (as in 2007-08) NGO runs its programs in 48 schools in and around Bangalore rural areas.

The project aims to enhance the learning levels of the kids in schools through various innovative approaches. The NGO acts as a facilitator in solving the problems schools face. The school staff themselves address the issues where improvement is needed and comes up with their own solution to the problems. Through this decentralized mechanism and resulting empowerment of schools, Sikshana has been very successful in achieving improving education in government schools. Sikshana is assessed by APF model for school performance. NGO has plans to make the program sustainable and replicable. It plans to replicate the Sikshana mode in Kanakapura school comprising of about 200 schools.

In the year 2008-09 Sikshana Foundation grew from 36 to 120 schools by inducting 84 new higher primary schools in the Kanakapura taluk. With this all the higher primary schools in the taluk are covered by Sikshana.





To evolve a sustainable and replicable model for an effective and decentralized public education system based on good management practices. Core Concepts: Work from within the system to enhance learning levels . Focus on motivational efforts . Provide essential inputs . Train, Guide and Empower schools . Implement cost-effective innovative ideas . Set quantifiable and measurable targets . Assess periodically against goals . Apply the ROI Concept . Implement Total Quality Management AID chapters are supporting the motivational aspects (which forms the core of the Sikshana learning program) of public schools in 12 city schools. Adoption of modern teaching techniques and aids. Working towards a sustainable model for replication on a wider scale. Rationale for Phase III .State has 48,000 primary schools under the PES . The present batch size of 50 is not adequate to validate the Model developed under Sikshana . For better credibility, an entire School Zone needs to be selected for implementation of the Program . Kanakapura School District has about 135 Primary schools of which 35 are already covered; the next Phase could target the remaining 100 schools . Phase III is hence a statistical validation process for Sikshana over an entire School District, taking it one more step towards universal acceptance
