Manshi Asher is currently based in Himachal Pradesh and is associated with camapigns working on sustainable livelihoods, ecological security and environmental justice in the state, providing consistent support to the various movements and community actions in their struggle with issues of land grabbing, compensation, rehabilitation, violation of livelihood rights, destruction of their common properties and environment as a result of mega development projects like Hydro-power, Cement mining, Mega tourism projects and SEZs being pushed in a blatant manner.

She also lends a hand and works with specific struggles against SEZs (in different states) that need support with lobbying, documentation and information extraction and dissemination. She is also co-moderating an egroup called ‘seztrack’ and helps with running the ‘stoposco’ blog as a part of the anti-Posco solidarity initiative.

Manshi Asher continued her research, activism and support for struggles against unfair SEZ implementations. Most of her work in 2009 was in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Manshi continued to partner with Himilaya Niti Abhiyan and, participate and document its activites including meetings and rallies. Manshi had campaigned and written extensively about Mundra Port and SEZ Limited (also called MPSEZL) in the Kutch area of Gujarat, whose construction is currently underway. With almost 50% of its construction complete, Manshi reports, MPSEZL could not have started any construction as the Ministry of Environment and Forests had granted only an ''in-principle approval'' as of now.

Providing support to struggles/campaigns against unfair SEZ set ups in the form of: * Direct action like strategic planning, petitioning, organisning solidarity actions and pushing for just legal action • Research and documentation – fact findings, field investigation, extraction of information through RTIs, compilation and dissemination of information through reports, papers and articles • Media advocacy – writing stories on the issues in print media as well net based fora , feeding local and national media with stories
