  Summary

Shri Renake is the founder of SDRC (Social Development and Research Centre) and has been working for nomadic tribes and other disadvantaged sections of the society for over three decades with
assistance from the sympathisers He has been associated with SOPPECOM for several years. SOPPECOM, advised by Shri K. R. Datye and
Prof. Dabholkar, has been exploring avenues of using development programmes to restore the ecological balance and to create permanent income generating assets to benefit the disadvantaged segment of the
rural community and women. In village Bhogaon, near Solapur,Shri Renake has been experimenting with these techniques for intensive culture on a small plot of 0.1ha. His work is a good demonstration of improving degraded lands and restoring the ecological balance and at the same time creating income generating opportunities for women from resource poor households.

  Achievements

Shri Renake has made his land available for setting up a training centre. Some accommodation would also be available. The training programme will include preparing highly productive soil from poor quality land, nursery techniques, seed production, composting, growing seedlings, plantation of trees, live fencing and nurture of the plants, and crop rotation. The training will also cover planning of land development, plantation activity, budgeting, accountings and monitoring. All this will be done in short spells of about a week with several training spells in one year at Solapur. All the ground work for setting up of the training centre has already been done. A critical need is assistance to Shri Renake to enable him to continue his activity.

  Goals

Improving degraded lands and restoring the ecological balance and at the same time creating income generating opportunities for women from resource poor households.
