Swati Desai and her husband Michael Mazgaonkar, are social and environmental activists who have been living and working in Juna Mozda, a tribal village in the Bharuch district of Gujarat, since 1991.





Swati has undertaken training of youth, women, adivasis etc on various issues. She has also been working closely with National Alliance of People''s movements (NAPM) and participated in their activities. She has also visited Kutch to study to understand the various developments that have taken place post earthquake in 2001 which will be published shortly. She also organized a youth training camp in Srinagar to promote people to people interaction. She received the Champaben Gondiya award and is using the citation money for the Women''s co-op. She also received the Nari Asmita award recognizing her efforts in social work.





The concept of a Saathi is a natural extension of the AID Fellowship idea. From time to time we come across persons who are contributing to the empowerment and development of communities in India and have a vision similar to ours.These are the people we nominate and elect to be our Saathis.
