New Year Message
from one thousand AID Volunteers

Dear Friends,

This newsletter has been a one-year review of our post-tsunami reconstruction efforts. We hope that through our regular newsletters, you have got a clear picture of how your generous donations have been utilized to support the most needy. About $1.9 million has been disbursed, and we are getting periodic reports from the field about the progress of the work.

So, what message does the New Year bring us?

First, it cautions us that the first year of reconstruction efforts has only laid the foundation. How we build on this foundation is crucial. The process of "Building Back Better" would take at least a few years. We need to sustain our attention on our community development efforts over this period. AID hopes that you continue to follow the progress and give us your suggestions and feedback.

Second, the New Year reminds us that there are so many more projects that need our support. While disasters like tsunami and earthquake receive enormous attention from donors and the media, there are many other urgent needs to be addressed - such as farmers' problems in AP, water conservation in Gujarat, malaria in West Bengal and child malnutrition in Bihar.

AID supports about 100 projects every year tackling these issues, and they all depend on generous individual donations. We urge you to contribute to our ONE for INDIA campaign to support these projects. Having found AID through a disaster, please sign up for a periodic contribution so that we can prevent many future disasters. Visit www.oneforindia.org TODAY!
